Mathematical competitions in Romania have been held since 1950. They are organized in several rounds, such as district round and national round. The national round is held in early spring for grades 7 to 12.
Romania at International Competitions
Romania has participated at IMO and Balkan MO very successfully since their foundations (1959 and 1984, respectively). The best success of their team in the recent history is the 1-st place on IMO 1996. Romania is also thought to be the founder of the IMO. Teams for Balkan MO and IMO (which are not the same in general) are selected through three to six selection exams held from April to June after the National Olympiad.
