The main competition in South Korea is Korean Mathematical Olympiad which started in 1987. It used to consist of two rounds for high schools, the first round (two 3-hour sessions) being held in November and the final round (in the IMO format) in April. The system was slightly reorganized in 2003 when a junior ``middle schools’’ category was introduced and a preliminary round added, so that the ``first’’ round was renamed the ``second’’.
