Problem Collection for Iran
History and SystemIranian Mathematical Olympiad was established in 1984 and consists of four rounds. The preliminary round consists of 30 multiple choice questions, while the other three rounds are nowadays held in the IMO format each. After the first round 40 students are invited for a training camp and the second round. Twelve of them qualify for the IMO traning camp and the third round of the national MO. In Iran, the preliminary, first, second, and third round are normally called first, second, third, and fourth round or team selection exam. Thanks a lot to Shayan Dashmiz from Iran who explained the system to us.
Iran at International CompetitionsIran took part at the IMO for the first time in 1985, and soon became very successful. In the recent history, the best success of an Iranian team at an IMO was the 1-st place in 1998. The IMO team is selected during the training program which consists of two phases: theoretical part (at fall or winter), which ends with a final course exam, and problem solving part (at early spring), during which the third round of the MO is held. (In 1996 the team was selected through the second round which consisted of two exams).
ProblemsThe total number of available problems is 176.
